Healing the Mind, Body, and Spirit for Dry Eye and Blepharitis Treatment with Dr. Sam Berne
Dr. Sam Berne’s protocols take a proactive, rather than reactive, approach to health and wellness. He understands and treats the body as one integrated system, rather than a collection of independent organs, in order to identify and address the root causes of disease. His whole health protocols improve vision and wellness by healing the mind-body-spirit through nutritional protocols, vision therapy, and self-care techniques. This views each person as genetically and biochemically unique and enables the individual to make lifelong improvements to their well-being.
When Dr. Berne first moved to New Mexico, he met a naturopathic chiropractor who was healing patients by sending them certain frequencies and vibrations without being in the same geographical location. That made little sense to him at the time, but he soon became a student of hers and began to learn more about the non-local field. Various thought leaders in the field of consciousness have looked at this and found that when we connect the global and local energy fields, this can improve health and wellness.
Dr. Berne began measuring patients’ energy fields during treatment for conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and dry eye disease, and he often found holes and other disharmony in the energy fields of these individuals. By using homeopathic treatments, essential oils, craniosacral therapy, color therapy, and other techniques, he began to help these patients heal their energetic states.
Energy Healing for Dry Eye
With dry eye disease, there’s often a stagnated energy in the eyes in addition to all of the physical signs and symptoms. If patients are open to it, there is usually a psycho emotional or spiritual reason why the patient is having the dryness to begin with.
One of the therapies that can be used is eye dialogue, or actually talking to your eyes. In this therapy, the patient will wear a patch over one eye while focusing on the other. You may ask what the eye needs and other questions that help you tap into the body’s innate intelligence for healing.
Unfortunately, most pharmaceutical medications take you further away from this innate biological intelligence, and our increased time spent on digital devices is also shutting down circulation and reducing nutrient absorption necessary for the eyes to maintain health.
Dr. Berne says we often want to blame faulty vision on the eyes, but it’s actually the programming that causes the eye tissues to deteriorate. This is so important to mention because, knowing this, the patient can take back the power for healing their body instead of constantly thinking that it’s going to get worse no matter what is done.
Of course, skepticism is very natural when we talk about this form of healing. Western medicine trained doctors often view this form of healing as fallacy, but there are many accounts of the healing it can do. For us personally, we used techniques to open up energy fields when we were trying to get pregnant with our first son. After Westerm medicine failed us, acupuncture and Eastern principles ended up being the ticket to a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby boy.
At Home Techniques for Dry Eye
Although you can definitely seek out an energy healer or someone like Dr. Berne who is an optometrist also focused on alternative medicine, there are also techniques you can use at home. Sound and breath work are two forms of meditation that are beneficial for healing energy.
Dr. Berne recommends trying the palm hum, and you can find instructions for that and other techniques here. Essentially, you rub your hands together and then place them over your closed eyes while you hum. The sound vibrates into the jaw, eyes, and the rest of the face. He recommends doing 8-10 of these to feel more centered and interrupt the stress pattern that so many of us are dealing with. You may even notice that your eyes appear clearer afterward.
Another exercise you can try is the tongue clock exercise. This comes from craniosacral therapy because the mouth and the jaw have a huge impact on the eyes. Simply run your tongue along the inside of your lips, which will activate your mouth and jaw to increase the circulation to the rest of your face. You’ll begin to feel a decrease in stress, and these exercises are so simple to use throughout your day to consistently interrupt that stress response.
Simple meditation and walking in nature can also both help with the stress response and energy fields, as well as other simple things such as an anti-inflammatory diet, hydration, proper exercise, and spiritual connection (whatever that means for you).
Dr. Sam Berne has been in private practice in New Mexico for over 25 years where he works with patients to improve their vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Pennsylvania State University, Doctor of Optometry from Pennsylvania College and did his postdoctoral work at the Gesell Institute in collaboration with Yale University. He has been awarded The Special Awards for Service from the Behavioral Optometrists in Mexico for his innovative and holistic work with children.
