How To Use Heyedrate Lid & Lash Cleanser
Heyedrate Lid and Lash Cleanser is a hypochlorous acid cleanser that is gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin and eyes. Hypochlorous acid is made naturally by the body by neutrophil cells, and it was originally used as a wound care agent. You'll not only see it used in emergency rooms, but dental and eye care clinics as well.
By using this spray twice per day, you’ll help support the health and comfort of your eyelids and, ultimately, your eyes.
How to Use Hypochlorous Acid Eyelid Cleanser
Hypochlorous acid is very easy to use.
After you wash your face at night, just spray it on a cotton ball or round and apply it to the base of the eyelashes. There's no need to rinse it off.
That's literally it!
If the solution gets in your eyes it's not going to cause any harm or irritation. It's safe for your eyes and your eyelids and has been thoroughly tested for this safety profile.
If you wear makeup, you're going to want to wash your face and take off your makeup first.

An eyelid hygiene routine is essential to supporting your eyelid health. The following is a full eyelid hygiene routine you can follow nightly:
Remove Makeup and Wash Your Face
Make sure to first remove all makeup, especially eye makeup, using the Heyedrate Eye Makeup Remover Oil. Makeup that sits on your eyes and skin overnight becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, and you also don't want cosmetic chemicals sitting around your eyes all night. You can also use the MediViz Eyelid Wipes for an extra scrub in between your eyelashes. After makeup removal, wash your face with a tea tree face wash. We recommend a tea tree foam wash.
Use a Warm Compress
This is now the time to use your warm compress, so heat that up and place it over your closed eyelids for 15-20 minutes. A warm compress will help heat up the oil in your meibomian glands and hopefully help get it flowing again, or keep it flowing like it should. A healthy tear film relies on healthy oil production, and this is one maintenance step that can be beneficial.
Spray on Hypochlorous Acid
Once you’ve completed that step (and hopefully relaxed for a bit!), use a hypochlorous acid cleanser. Hypochlorous acid is made naturally by the body and it’s a gentle way to cleanse your eyelids and lashes. This entire routine should be followed once or twice daily, similar to brushing your teeth.
FAQs about Heyedrate Lid and Lash Cleanser
What is the percentage of hypochlorous acid in your cleanser?
The percentage of hypochlorous acid in our Heyedrate product is 0.015%. So, comparing to other eye care products, some are 0.01% and others are 0.02%. It doesn't really matter, because it's a parts per million comparison and so it's so small that you're not going to notice a difference.
I use OCuSOFT lid scrub every morning. Does this product replace the lid scrub, or would it be used in addition?
We recommend you use it the way Dr. Jenna does, which is spraying it on a cotton round or a cotton ball and then gently rub on your eyelids and between your lashes. This product can usually replace your eyelid scrub. Some people still like to have the extra friction of an eyelid wipe, and it's fine to use both if desired. We would recommend using our MediViz Eyelid wipes!
Is hypochlorous acid just diluted bleach?
We get this question all the time. It is NOT just diluted bleach and, in fact, Heyedrate Lid and Lash Cleanser does not contain any bleach impurities. Some hypochlorous acid products actually do produce bleach as a byproduct, but it is NOT diluted bleach. What you'll see in those products is NaOCl which is sodium hypochlorite (bleach). Our main active ingredient is HOCl, which is hypochlorous acid. Both have a chlorine type smell because of the chlorine that's on the backbone of the molecule. That's the big difference between sodium hypochlorite (which is bleach) and hypochlorous acid, and that's a huge difference in the chemistry world.
My eyelashes get dried out when I use the Heyedrate Lid and Lash Cleanser, why is that?
You might have a little sensitivity to one of the ingredients. It does only have two ingredients in addition to water, but even if it is minimal ingredients you might still get dry from it. It does contain sodium chloride, which is just like table salt and can be a little drying. We recommend moisturizing afterward with jojoba oil or another moisturizer that's safe for use around the eyes.
Is there an expiration date for your Heyedrate Lid and Lash Cleanser? How long does each bottle last?
Yes! The expiration date is technically two years past the date of manufacture. We manufacture it all the time so if you're buying a bottle it's likely that the bottle that you're buying was made within a month of you purchasing it.
Our one ounce bottle is a one month supply, depending on how much you use it. We calculated this based on how much comes out in the spray and we calculated based on four sprays per day. The four ounce bottle is then obviously a four month supply.
