MISSION: END PREVENTABLE BLINDNESS

Naturally Preventing and Slowing Cataract Formation

Naturally Preventing and Slowing Cataract Formation

We usually tell our patients that cataracts are something that everyone will get at some point in their lives, if they’re lucky to live long enough. Why is this? Cataracts form in the lens within our eye because the lens adds layers to itself yearly, losing flexibility and the ability to focus up close. This hardening eventually prevents necessary antioxidants from entering the lens, but these antioxidants, oxygen, and nutrients are needed to keep the lens clear and healthy. Without these necessities, the lens begins to cloud over and form a cataract.

Previous thinking was that cataracts could not be prevented. However, there are now homeopathic eye drops and sprays that may prevent their formation and delay their progression. There are even homeopathic cataract pellets. Some of these remedies contain cineraria maritima which is believed to enhance the transfer of antioxidants from the blood into the aqueous that surrounds the natural lens of the eye. Cineraria is a part of the sunflower family and has been thought to increase circulation and normalize metabolism within the eye tissues. Obviously, it is better to begin homeopathic eye drops early on in the cataract formation, which makes it easier for the ingredients to have their effect.

In addition to these eye drops, it is always a wonderful idea to increase the amount of nutrients you take in on a daily basis. Forget the fried, greasy foods and replace them with fresh vegetables, fruits, and omega-3 fatty acids. When the body receives the nutrients it needs from food, supplements may not be necessary. However, if you follow a typical Western diet, a whole food multivitamin would be a great addition to your daily routine.

If your eye doctor has told you that you’re developing cataracts, now is a great time to begin treatment with safe, homeopathic remedies. Using these treatments may mean delaying that cataract surgery just a little bit longer! Have you ever tried these eye drops before? What was your experience?
