Samaritan's Purse International Relief
At Eye Love, we really enjoy highlighting the great work other companies are doing in this world. We can all agree that if we all gave a little more of our time, money, and resources, the world would be a better place! This month, we're featuring Samaritan's Purse International Relief.
What they do
It is God's desire for us to help those in desperate need just like the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37). For over 40 years, Samaritan's Purse has traveled around the world to aid the poor, sick, and suffering through food, medicine, and other assistance. Just like the Good Samaritan, they don't just stop there. In addition to meeting present and emergency needs, they help the underprivileged get back on their feet.
Mission
Samaritan's Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan's Purse has helped meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God's love through His Son, Jesus Christ. The organization serves the church worldwide to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
How they started
Bob Pierce founded and led the ministry of Samaritan's Purse in 1970. He is a journalist who traveled throughout Asia after World War II. He met some courageous women in China who were living among lepers and orphans and, through them, God gave Pierce a vision for ministry. He dedicated himself in supporting other Christians who were caring for the poor and suffering in remote areas of the world.
Bob Pierce died of leukemia in 1978. A year later, Franklin Graham became the President and Chairman of the Board of Samaritan's Purse. Franklin Graham is an adventurous young student who accompanied Bob on a life-changing tour of some of the world's most underprivileged mission fields. Franklin has led the ministry through over 30 years of earthquakes, hurricanes, wars, and famine all across the globe.
Operation Christmas Child
Be part of changing children's lives all over the world through a simple gift with Operation Christmas Child. Since 1990, children to seniors fill shoe boxes with a variety of gifts that will bring delight to children in need around the world.
If you don't have time to shop and pack an Operations Christmas Child shoe box gift, for a suggested donation of just $25 you can build a shoe box online. They will pack the shoe box and send it for you!
Operations Christmas Child also accepts donations such as toys and school supplies. These donations are used as filler items and to replace items that may harm a child or damage a shoe box.
Millions of shoe boxes are collected during National Collection Week. Each box has to be carefully inspected before these special gifts bring hope and joy to children around the world. You can volunteer as an individual or with family and friends in any of their processing centers across the United States.
More than 146 million children in over 150 countries have received joy and hope through the simple shoe box gifts from Operation Christmas Child. A small shoe box packed and sent with love can have a big impact to children in need around the world.
